What is Unix?Difference between unix and Linux?
Unix has a complicated history, since many groups have had their hands on it and there have been many splits.

Linux is a free Unix clone, meant to be unencumbered by Unix copyrights and patents and disputes (although it has had its own fair share of trouble).

So if you want to learn a Unix-like system, learn Linux since it's quickly becoming popular and has surpassed most other Unix-like operating systems in popularity and commodity.

There are tons of beginner Linux and Unix books and pages on the internet. For the most part, you shouldn't really need a book if you just install it and start playing with it.
Reply:Linux is just like Unix except the code for the kernel has been re-written from scratch.

Linux is different in the respect that no one owns the rights to Linux.
Reply:use urban dictionary it has a pretty good definition
