If you were running a UNIX or Linux operating system on your computer, could you use the same application software that you use for a computer running Windows?

You can to some degree with an implementation of the Windows API called wine.

Also, a number of applications are cross platform and work on either, for example Firefox and OpenOffice.org. They work natively on Windows, Linux, and other platforms.
Reply:You can install WINE or some other "Windows" simulators but windows programs will not run natively on Linux/Unix any more than linux/unix programs will run natively on windows.
Reply:no.
Reply:How funny, I have this question for my computer info class and it is exactly the same! Thanks for asking it :-)
