What is the fullform of unix?
Dennis Ritchie said it was a play on the Multics OS name. He created Unix, so his word is good enough for me.

I added the reference from Bell Labs (where Unix was created) below so that I had more evidence than just what I heard from Dennis around 1980 or so.
Reply:Full form of UNIX is UNiplexed Information Computing System (UNICS), later known as UNIX.

It is because, when the Unix was first developed in 1970s, it required the data and address buses to be uniplexed, i.e they were not multiplexed, hence it was named so.
Reply:Unix is just that ...Unix although when referring to members of the *nix family the * is used.

Unix (officially trademarked as UNIX®) is a computer operating system originally developed in 1969 by a group of AT%26amp;T employees at Bell Labs including Ken Thompson, Dennis Ritchie and Douglas McIlroy. Today's Unix systems are split into various branches, developed over time by AT%26amp;T as well as various commercial vendors and non-profit organizations.
