I do not know Unix Operating System. Now, I need to learn Oracle RDBMS.
Is Unix a prerequisite for learning Oracle RDBMS?
Theoritically No, Practically yes.
You are going in for Oracle RDBMS i think for better job prospects, although not from being UNIX background is in no way a hindrance to learn oracle.
but for better job prospects, it is advisable that you learn Unix also side by side as Unix with Oracle has far more demand in market than just Oracle on windows.
I think everyone working on databases will agree on this :)
Reply:No. uracle runs on unix and windows. so get the verstion you want.
i used oracle for many years but on windows flat form.
enjoy oracle
Reply:Unix is not a prerequisite for learning Oracle RDBMS.
You can use Windows OS with Oracle RDBMS. Here you can get Oracle knowledge but not able to use the OS functionalities more effectively. In unix, you can write an effective shell script for oracle, schedule a script in crontab, able to set environment variables for multiple databases by running a single shell script, switch between diff users, and lots of things are there. If you want to learn Oracle along with OS, start using unix OS with Oracle RDBMS.
