I have to give a presentation on a Unix related topic. The problem is I have no idea what topic would be good for a ten minute presentation. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Unix Topics?
DUST THE SERVER
I often recommend unix to ISPs for large servers that are doing a standard internet job. It might have less toys than other OSs but its secure and stable. The problem is that its SOooooo stable that people forget its there, or even where it is. When it goes down I hear things like "we set that up a few years ago" or "the last guy did that and I only login rarely from my terminal". The reason it tends to go down is that when I find it its coated in dust and cobwebs clogging its cooling.
Another problem I find with unix servers is a backup system using the tape player or cd on the server which years ago people forgot they were supposed to change. The endless rewrites destroyed the media years before they decided to see if the backups were still working.
Reply:Hi,
Well think about Clustering, or Security
High Availability, SMP (Symmetric Multiprocessing)
Storage like NAS or SAN
