Why should I get Linux/Unix if I'm into hacking?

I'm a budding hacker and I'm teaching myself to code, networking, ports, protocols, etc and I was wondering why people always talk about Linux/Unix being a great OS for hacking.

P.S. - Does anyone know of any GOOD books, websites, billboards, etc. (kidding about the billboard) that teach about hacking or about how computers work?

Linux is a great system for programmers etc. because it's strength lies in it's command line power, not so much in the GUI. Many popular exploit/hack tools are for linux, and are much more difficult in windows, or simply do not work at all or are not made for windows. hope this helps.
Reply:If you are going to teach your self ANYTHING - first you might want to teach your self how to search for stuff on Google so that you can find stuff without having to ask other people - otherwise how do you plan on "hacking" a system if you are no good at searching for stuff?
